The author Janet Mock discusses in her memoir “Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More” she explores many different positives and negatives about the body and how it is looked upon in society. Janet basically just gives us the story that made her the women she is today. Janet starts off her memoir describing a guy named Arron who she had met. Arron was so open to telling her everything about him, which then made her feel comfortable, but at the same time uncomfortable. Uncomfortable because she did not want to lose what him and her had built by telling him the truth. At an early age Janet quickly decided that she would be her own person. Janet struggled as the determined child in a deeply lovely family who lacked the money and navigated her childhood without parental guidance to help her thrive. She was lucky to have close friends and mentors that helped her emerge a lot and take on anything and maybe even change the world. From an eco-feminist point white Trans are more privileged than black Trans. Statistics show that Trans of color, specifically Trans women of color, are subjected to violence more. They are also more likely to live in extreme poverty, be homeless and lack a college degree. Janet beat both of these statistics and many more; she is happily married and has a master’s degree. She did receive all of this before she came out about her past. Until the moment she met a man who called her the woman of his dreams. Love fortified her with the strength to finally tell her story, enabling her to embody the undeniable power of testimony and become a fierce advocate for a misunderstood society. Why does she embrace Trans? She states, “That it qualifies her womanhood. It is very motivating to see Janet accept herself as a Trans I today’s society knowing how society frown upon it. She is giving other Trans in the world hope to be more comfortable in the skin they choose to live
