I am writing in response to the UDI Africa project of development and innovation for higher education. I graduated from Washington State University in 2015 in the Department of Teaching and Learning under the supervision of Dr. Pam J. Bettis and Dr.David Cassels Johnson. I am currently an assistant professor of English language, literature and cultural studies in the English Department at the Faculty of Arts and Chair for Scientific Affairs and Post-Graduate Studies at the School of Languages and Arts of Agostinho Neto University, Luanda, Angola. My research agenda stems from the idea that education, to be sure language education, is central for academic literacy and that language education policies play a pivotal role in shaping the opportunities and futures of language minority students and English language learners (ELLs) from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The focus of my research is not only on classroom pedagogical practices, but also on the social, intercultural, and political environments that shape and influence the academic lives and the opportunities for these students. The drive to participate in the aforementioned project is to actually bring the bulk of knowledge and insights that I have gained in my training into fruition and encourage evidence-based language teaching and learning in Angola. During my practicum in American schools a gained not only invaluable experience, but also knowledge and understanding regarding the factors that shape and influence educational landscapes. The knowledge that I gained both from meu fieldwork in educational administration and my experience in teaching and learning with English learners have encouraged me to investigate language education policies and embark on evidence-based classroom research to better inform language teaching and establish learning pedagogical best
