A big dream of mine has always been to travel the world. I found reading this article, “Roads Less Traveled” by Rick Steves to only give me more inspiration to adventure out into the world. In his article, Steves talks about how he finds God in all the places he had traveled to. He believes citizens should travel because he deliberates that they will have a better connection with this world. Steves carries on how he encounters profound feelings when he experiences his excursions throughout the world, namely Europe. No matter where the destination or country, Steves has one thing on his mind. He believes that traveling is his way to get to known God’s family along with discovering more about his culture. This statement is very accurate to my belief about traveling and leaving home. I grew up on a farm in Iowa and was reminded everyday of the open land of fields never ending. I wanted nothing more than to see skyscrapers in a huge city. However, going to school in Omaha gave me a different perspective on the city look I always dreamed of having. I thought once I got to the city and saw all the lights along with the crazy traffic it would be a thrilling experience. However, it didn’t live up to my expectations like I thought it would. When I came home for the first time, last year during fall break as a freshman, I never realized how beautiful Iowa was. I remember stating to my mom how everything looked so breathtaking, and she laughed at me because she thought I was kidding. I don’t regret coming to school in Omaha, I’m glad I chose to adventure off because I would never view home the way I do now if I haven’t left home.
