Shame by Dick Gregory
Hate an intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of jury. Shame a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. Extreme dislike or disgust comes into the equation when hate or shame comes into play.Shame is a narrative essay of the childhood experience of a prominent writer, civil-rights activist, comedian, inventor, and athlete Dick Gregory. Explaining childhood experiences using the “Point Out Common Grounds” strategy to persuade his readers to understand why he feels his environment is unfavorable. Gregory talks about how he struggles to be like the rest of the children at school and why his perception changed.
In “Shame,” Dick describes the pain of growing up poor. Being a youngster without an extra pair of clothes for school, but the one he had, he kept clean. Sometimes, he had to beg for ice from the grocery store ice machine, wait for it to melt and then use the cold water to wash his clothes. On some winter days, he had to wear his them wet if they were not dried.

At home, his single-mother had six children to raise. He was not getting enough attention as he wanted at home, he got his attention at school. However, his opinion changed one day when his teacher disregarded his presence in class, told him to keep quiet, and publicly insulted him about his hardship situation.
