Theme Paragraph The poem "Shattered" by Stanley Ly is about a person trying to ignore and move away from his past but doesn't ended up to be able to. In the poem the author uses a variety of picture-making devices and sound making devices to emphasize this message. An example of this would be when the speaker says "I will be reckoning and manipulating your every move, just like a puppeteer master" (Shattered 11) which is a Simile as the speaker is comparing his control over the person to the control of a puppeteer using the word like. Metaphor is evident when the speaker states "the soldiers of courage and the sun rays of hope." Next, allusion is evident when the speaker states "your Pandora's box of nightmares created by yours truly"(Shattered 8) is alluding the Pandora's box which is a box in Greek mythology where a girl named Pandora opens box which contains the horrors of the world. There is paradox evident when the speaker states "Do not attempt to repair the irreparable history"(Shattered 10) as it is saying not to repair the history even though it was never reparable in the first place. There is symbolism evident when the speaker states “I only reside in the back of your classroom watching and listening what you present you me everyday" (Shattered 14) the Classroom in this statement symbolizes the brain that the speaker is in and how he is at the back of it. There is Imagery evident when the speaker states "I portray the roaring fires of the volcano, as the fires reap and hunt your current self." (Shattered 6) As it is illustrating in words what the
