Theme Paragraph The poem "Shattered" by Stanley Ly is about a person trying to ignore and move away from his past but doesn't ended up to be able to. In the poem the author uses a variety of picture-making devices and sound making devices to emphasize this message. An example of this would be when the speaker says "I will be reckoning and manipulating your every move, just like a puppeteer master" (Shattered 11) which is a Simile as the speaker is comparing his control over the person to the control of a puppeteer using the word like. Metaphor is evident when the speaker states "the soldiers of courage and the sun rays of hope."
