During the Antebellum period, women started to debate about antislavery. In Susan Zaeske’s article Signature of Citizenship: Debating Women’s Antislavery Petitions it demonstrates how women start to take action by petitioning (213). Petitioning was an important strategy for women in an era where they were still not allowed to vote. Zaeske argues that when women started to petition they needed to have a solid argument about why slavery should be abolished (213).
