“Speak”, a book by Laurie Halse Anderson, holds place in Syracuse, New York, where Melinda Sordino experiences the tragedy of rape at an end-of-summer-party and attempts to recover from her trauma all throughout her first year of highschool. The commence of high school did not go too well. Everything was going swell before she knew she was getting bombarded by a guy. This became hard for her, talking about an experience like this was very hard to even talk about. It was the only class she was able to get an A in which showed to prove that the class was doing her good. With Mr.Freeman, he helped her not only see the beauty in art, but to see how life corporates with it. At first, Melinda egt a topic drawn out of a (bowl?) and has to work with it all year long to make it portray more than just artwork. He wanted every student to show expression and emotion in their produced works involving their topic. With this all year long project, Melinda slowly was able to learn her own colors as well as the people around her too. Ever since what happened to her, she has been keeping a secret that she struggles to let out. Because she called the police after the tragedy of what happened to her (need to find a word), the people at the party, including her friends, functionally spurned her. The school year begins and Melinda only makes one friend, Heather, a new student (change up) to be favored by the studetns aat MerryWeather high school.
