In the United States English college classes, the students are still learning about horror/mystery stories. According to “Darkecho.com”, horror/mystery authors are not entirely "nice". Devil worship and baby-eating are sometimes considered daily fare for authors of dark fiction; they are assumed to never wear anything but black. The two main stories from my English 1002 class is “N” written by Stephen King and “Tell-Tale Heart” written by Edgar Allan Poe. According to “stephenking.com”, Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947. Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. The definition for the climax is the highest or most intense point in the development. Climax askes the questions: “When does the main character face their problem?”. In Stephen Kings “Tell-Tale Heart” the narrator pulls the old man from the bed and suffocates him. In Edgar Allan Poe’s story “N” the turning point is at Akerman’s field. When Dr. John Bonsaint looks at the trees and sees the faces in the stones, and then he turns around and sees something turning around also. The definition of resolution is whenever the dispute or conflict has been resolved in the story. Resolution is what happens at the very end of the story. In Stephen Kings “N” the resolution is that “N” commits suicide. Doctor Johnny goes to Akerman’s field and he realizes that “N” was correct. Then doctor Johnny starts to believe the same exact things that “N” obsession was. Doctor Johnny then kills himself so that the torture would stop. In Edgar Allan Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart” the resolution is when the narrator confesses to the police, because the narrator hears a noise that sounds like the old man’s heart. Stephen Kings “N” and Edgar Allan Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart” resolution is differently used because of the outcome of the two stories.
