Reaction Paper Amy C. Steinbugler the author of Beyond Loving, examines interracial intimacy in the beginning of the twenty-first century and it has continued to developed new ideologies. Segregation, slavery, court cases, black lives matter and many other historical movements occurred decades ago and people were not allowed to form a relationship outside of their race, because of biracial which was looked upon as wrong. It became a phase of racial denials in which interracial relationships are seen as symbols of racial progress. This book examines the racial dynamics of everyday life of lesbian, gay heterosexual of black and white couples. Overall, this book analyzes cotemporary interracial through “racework”.
In Aria: A Memoir of a Bilingual Childhood, Richard Rodriguez makes the claim that “[i]t is not possible for a child—any child—ever to use his family’s language in school. Not to understand this is to misunderstand the public uses of schooling and to trivialize the nature of intimate life – a family’s ‘language.’” Rodriguez enforces this idea through extensive use of vignettes as well as the structure of his essay, recalling his childhood and his reluctance to learn public language. Going into depth, he explains how his fear of the public society—rather his belief that he could not be a part of it—caused the young author to be weary of leaving his intimate family setting.
Many objects are made up of smaller ones: all of the bricks that go into one Lego structure, the various ingredients that make up the cake, and the many gears of a clock. Like these objects, a writer's style that he uses to persuade his audience is constructed the same way. A writer uses many rhetorical devices - the parts- to make one style- the whole piece. One writer that has a specific style is Leonard Pitts. Pitts is a journalist who writes editorials for The Miami Herald.
In the poem, “Becoming and Going: An Oldsmobile Story” by Gerald Hill the speaker is traveling down a road in the Fort Qu’appelle Valley. He notices his father and his son are also driving down this road. The speaker then begins to list the two men’s characteristics. As he lists them we see that the father and the son have both similarities and differences in their personalities.
K. Alexander Ashe, with her article titled “Yes. Education System Overhaul should Include New Emphasis on Financial Literacy” provides a better argument to support personal finance classes for all compared to “No. Better We Get Back to Basics” written by Wayne Madsen. First off, Ashe attempts to persuade the reader by making his writing seem credible and trustworthy.
In the essay, "Aria: Memoir of a Bilingual Childhood", Richard Rodriguez explains his opinion on bilingual education based on his own childhood experience. He provides reasons why it would be retrogressive to permit the non-English speaking children use their family language as the language in school. In defending his positions, he provides three ideas to support his position: • The use of family language impedes child’s social growth. Insistence on using Spanish language at home made Rodriguez and his older sister and brother to be socially disadvantaged at school.
Being bilingual can be both useful or irritating, having the ability to communicate and understand several languages or being raised to be an interpreter for your parents. As you become more exposed to a variety of languages you can often observe how society treats certain languages. Martin Espada is a lawyer and poet who defends Spanish speakers in America, makes it clear about the role of language in his essay, “The New Bathroom Policy at English High School.” He asserts that the importance of language is created from cultural identity. When Espada shared what he learned about maintaining and defending Spanish he proceeded to say, “Defending the right of all Latinos to use the tongue of their history and identity creates in me passion for Spanish itself.”

What is the right thing to do? Ellie Wiesel believes people should do the right thing, but more importantly these should choose a side. Indifference is worse than anger, rage, and hatred as Ellie said, “Anger can at times be creative. One writes a great poem, a great symphony, have done something special for the sake of humanity because one is angry at the injustice that one witnesses”(Elie Wiesel, The Perils of Indifference). With indifference people are only punishing the victim and helping to achieve the goal of the unrighteous.
By using strong supporting arguments In the essay entitled, Everyone is Watching You, by Nadine Strossen. Strossen’s goal in the essay is to influence her readers that surveillance cameras do more damage than good, and that something needs to be done to eliminate them. Her controversy on this matter was very vigorous, Strossen convincingly argues that surveillance cameras are an atrocious idea and needs to be stopped. She does a satisfying job of catering to her viewers in her essay. With a topic that pertains to everybody, she takes the opportunity to use this to her convenience.
The parent’s perspective towards bilingual education was like the student’s opinions because both individuals felt immersion classrooms benefit the students and the parents. The father of Jason was proud his son was the first in his family to read, write, and speak in English. Jason’s father knew his son would have many career opportunities by learning English at school. Learning the English academic language was not the only proud language Jason’s father encouraged for Jason to learn but also the Spanish language as well. Jason’s father only speaks Spanish so if his son was to lose his home language, a language barrier would form between father and son.
Simonitsch and Lambert intel that the city of San Francisco was underfunded due to the overwhelming of immigrates of LEP students and made the students submerse into the English language (2004). Ultimately, the programs in San Francisco are failing at maintenance of bilingual education to static and developmental maintenance. Barker refers that static maintenance is to target language skills by maintaining them and developmental maintenance is to reach the student’s home language into a full proficiency of full biliteracy or literacy; also, known as Enrichment Bilingual Education (2011). Structures were built to praise the Gods and sculptures were made to depict the idea of how they looked. But, in the medieval period the ideas of the people began to change. Thoughts started to turn more into the idea of spirituality and paganism.
Parents should stay involved in their child's schooling. Language barriers are not the only barrier for ELL students but their parents as well. But, many ELLs come from families who earn significantly less pay than equally opportunity English speakers. Which puts an economic burden on the family. Families may desire to be a part of their child’s schooling, but many feel a certain level of disconnect from the school system.
Introduction In the early 1910’ s both Europe and America experienced an artistic revolution. This revolution took the form of Dada, an anti- art movement that broke down several boundaries within the art world. Dada’s iconoclastic attitude was unconventional and challenged the limitations of a society that had brought about the First World War. The unpredictability of the movement shocked the public, a public who the Dadaists purposely provoked in attempts to convey their message and bring about change.
