In this week’s reading, I connected the Ms. Article “Abstinence Isn’t Enough,” and the Feminist Theory Reader, “Defining Black Feminist Thought” in which I observed different perspectives of different feminist injustice both arguing that such social issues cannot be define in a macro-perspective. Therefore, interpreting my knowledge on the different issues presented in both these articles. In “Abstinence Isn’t Enough,” they introduced the issue that in 2011 President Bush funded 1.3 billion dollars for sex education only. Then the article states that President Obama funded 178 million dollars towards teen pregnancy prevention programs. According to the article, such program is not successful because it focuses on the failing issues and health risks instead of preventing and helping teenagers’ victims of this social issue. On the other hand, President Obama’s fund is made to already help those teen mothers become more educated and guide them away from social injustices they may face. In “Defining Black Feminist Thought.” it discusses the issue of expanding the understanding of the diverse meaning of being a Back feminist. “She suggests that experiences gained from living as African-American women stimulate a Black feminist sensibility. But her definition is simultaneously troublesome because it makes the biological category of Blackness the prerequisite for possessing such thought. Furthermore, it does not explain why these particular ideological criteria and not others are the distinguishing ones”. Similar to the Ms. Article, it discusses that such a simple definition of a social issue cannot be defined nor only treated in one way.
