The social institution of education maintains inequalities through the demonstration of two of our assign readings. First, the reading Missing in Interaction by Myra and David Sadker is an essay that was based on how segregation exists in the classrooms and the impact it has on both boy and girls (Ore, 2011b; 305). Their main argument is that sexism occurs in the classroom without the teachers realizing it. Teachers tend to focus more on the boys than girls when a class discussion begins. There are two examples within this essay that demonstrates this.
She lists a number of statistics that show how young women surpass men in different situations. First, Hymowitz states the fact that women graduate from college in greater numbers. Specifically, that “Americans ages 25 to 34,34 percent of women now have a bachelor’s degree but just 27 percent of men” (492). Hymowitz then gives factual evidence professors shared that women show more confidence and drive than men, are more to be in grad school, and even graduate with higher GPA’s than men. She adds that women are making bigger paychecks than their boyfriends and brothers.
Most classrooms are analogous in their basic structure. They typically consist of the essential accessories such as chairs, tables, and desks. However moving past the basic structures they become more unique. Their distinguished qualities, often correspond with varying influential factors. These factors include, instructor and subject matter, school setting, and student population.
In Why Johnny Won't Read by Mark Bauerlein and Sandra Stotsky, they state, ¨From 1992 to 2002, the gender gap in reading by young adults widened considerably. In overall book reading, young women slipped from 63 percent to 59 percent, while young men plummeted from 55 percent to 43 percent.¨ This shows that although girls did decrease by a slight percent, boys were still below them. It shows that boys have a disadvantage when it comes to education because they may be concentrated in other things such as sports for example that they don't portray the same amount of concentration that they have on the sport onto their education status. In addition, in Mind Over Muscle by David Brooks, he states ¨In high school, girls get higher grades in every subject, usually by about a quarter of a point, and have a higher median class rank.

The Boys and Girls Club is a program, which provides children in the community a place to learn, have fun and grow. The program was created in 1860 by Mary Goodwin, Alice Goodwin and Elizabeth Hammersley in Connecticut. The program was created in order to prevent young men from playing in the street. Everybody can admit to judging before they get to know somebody at some point in their lives and I can be one of those people sometimes, although I try not to, it is difficult because there are a lot of people that do and it is hard to not jump on the bandwagon immediately.
