The term “stress” originated in the field of physics and was transferred into psychology. Basically, the idea is that human beings tend to resist external forces acting upon them, just as do physical materials and bodies (Hobfull, 1989). Stress is an everyday part of life, but how much it can affect you plays a major role in the everyday functioning of an individual. Whether stress powers you on to improve as stated by Goleman (2004 p.84), or hinders your progression it is important that stress is kept in moderation. Stress can attribute to many conditions such as diabetes, stroke and heart failure as stated by Mills, Reiss & Dombeck in “The Long-Term Consequences Of Negative Stress”. Evidently from research and analysis stress plays a bigger role in the growing of the human body, and should be monitored individually to ensure that health is being looked after. There are many different ways that stress impact my life every day, some good other quite the opposite.
The Lesser Known Side of Stress In the case of humans, stress is considered to be a type of mental strain, often put in a negative light. The general loathing of stress may be due to the fact that it often seems to come in large quantities with no warning. However, much of the public is misinformed when it comes to the topic of stress. Stress is caused by the overwhelming of an individual and can affect the individual’s health in several different ways.
No one can deny that stress can be caused by many reasons. For instance, you may not like your job, money matters, quarrel with your boy or girl friend, stress is something that you cannot avoid. Generally, stress attacks when you start thinking that you are the victim of circumstances or most importantly when you feel that a situation, things, or work will not be solved by you, that’s when you place yourself under stress. However, fortunately stress has a solution within the world and their easy ways to reduce stress in your life.
3. Review of literature 3.1 Stress and its types: Stress is an essential mediator of human behaviour. Immediate physiological response to any type of stressor facilitates survival of the species at its maximum. Despite of normal homeostatic regulatory mechanism, the stress responses can become maladaptive. Chronic stress, for example immobilization, exposure to noise, irradiations, psychological stress can leads to a host of adverse health consequences, including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, obesity, depression and early ageing (McEwen et al, 2004).
Stress has received so much attention in the past few decades of research and studies. This is due to its large impact on the lives of human being as it primarily affects our daily adaptation and functioning. Stress has also been largely associated with adverse effects on mental health and physical health of people. Due to these adverse effects on human health, the capability of an individual to function socially and cognitively is impaired. The impacts of stress should be handled well by the person affected because this could lead to worse outcomes if the person was unable to use the proper coping mechanisms.
Stress is a ubiquitous part of everyday life. There is no way to avoid stress but you can learn to manage it. Stress can be caused through distinct ways and distinct reasons such as personal problems, social and job issues, post-traumatic stress and so on. You may have headache, feeling anxiety and depression, and easily irritated if did not handle stress well. Reduce stress in daily life is important to keep overall health since it will let you to have better frame of mind, enhance immunity and longevity so you can be more productive.
