The nonfiction book The Road to Woodstock: From The Man Behind the Legendary Festival was written by Michael Lang, creator of the Woodstock Music Festival. Lang grew up in New York as an ambitious youth and ventured into the world of music festivals at the early age of 24 with his first festival in Miami 1968. With the help of Grammy nominee and writer, Holly George-Warren, he created a true-to-life text that highlighted his career as the creative visionary and co-creator of the renowned Woodstock music festival. Michael Lang’s purpose in authoring this book was to show the organization of this event, how it deeply resonated with him and the nonconforming people of a capitalist society, as well as how the festival’s overall message of peace and unity was at the core of it all. I chose this book because I had seen pictures of it and was interested in how it became such a big event. I wanted to get a bigger perspective of how large this festival was for the time being. Some of Michael Lang’s sources include his memories and various interviews with his old employees, co-producers, and magazine interviews, which were arranged and done through Holly George-Warren. Based on the author’s primary sources and direct work on Woodstock, he was qualified to author this book’s topic.
