In the article, “Marine Mammals in Captivity” by the World Animal Protection, the author Naomi Rose is against marine mammals in captivity. Whereas the article, “The Whys and Hows of Marine Life in Captivity”, by Katelynn Parmeley is about why it can be an educational benefit and service to the community. The intended audience for these papers is animal lovers and preferably marine biologists and activists. In the article Pro Marine Mammals in Captivity, the author Katelynn Parmeley uses strong explanations for her side of the argument through ethos and logos. She uses the ethos ethically by explaining why it is ethical for marine mammals to be kept in captivity because it gives great educational opportunities and sources for people to learn from. One example is that aquarius is starting to be more educationally ethical, like “SeaWorld has vowed to refocus its famous orca shows to a more education based encounter”(Parmeley). She also uses logos to show the logical meaning behind building the aquarius and how they are safe and sustainable areas for marine life to thrive in. There are many educators and specialists that “have spent a LOT of their lives in school and dedicated their careers to the health and care of hundreds of species,” that work at Aquarius (Parameley). This proves the care the workers have for the animals. Both articles were extremely effective, opposing views on whether the captivity of marine mammals is ethical or unethical. Although, out of both stances, I believe the unethical side against captivity of the mammal is more effective. I believe it is more convincing as it is more emotionally engaging and
