Susan B. Neumen’s main purpose or motivation in writing the article, “The American Dream: Slipping Away?” indicates that all children should be trained properly in education. Many people come to America because it captures opportunities and striving for better dreams. Even if they are in poverty or privilege everyone should be given the right resources to absorb and succeed. Although those who have achieve their dreams, the American Dream had become more problematic for many others to accomplish. Neuman also added research and statistics on parents and children in two neighboring cities how they are different.
In the essay Is the American Dream Over? by Cal Thomas, the author references Bob Herbert’s essay, Hiding From Reality, to give his American readers an additional point of view on the American Dream situation. Working for Fox News Watch, Thomas has a conservative bias that is very evident in his essay, but this helps his audience explore a different perspective. He wrote this to inform Americans that the original American Dream is still alive, and to persuade them that unrestrained liberalism is at fault for the tarnished image of the new Dream.
Americans are still achieving their dreams today by working hard. In the essay “They Live the Dream,” Dan Rather stated, “Delores Kesler… began her career at twenty-two with a series of dead-end jobs, struggling to make ends meet” (41). She was trying to provide for her child,

Impossible Dreams The meaning of the American Dream can be seen as ”A uniquely American vision of the country consisting of three central ideas. The American dream consists of a belief in America as the new Eden- a land of beauty, bounty, and unlimited promise; a feeling of optimism, created by ever expanding opportunity; and a confidence in the triumph of the individual.” Using this definition of the so called “American dream”, it seems to be a great representation of it at first, until you realize it includes everyone as the individual. From the beginning of the Civil war to the end of the War to End All Wars, the American Dream wasn’t possible due to the treatment of the Native Americans, the inequality between women and men, and the false promises given to the immigrants coming to our country in their time of need.
Lastly, the speaker uses tone to reflect the disbelief of “The American Dream”. Hazel felt like fairy-tales are just dreams and there is a difference between dreams and reality. For example, “tryin ta climb” (7 & 8). Hazel symbolizes society’s representation of women in the past; uneducated, un-ambitious, and un-believing in themselves or others. Also, “Sohelpmegod” (10).
The American Dream: Dead or Alive? Is the American Dream dead or alive? This question has been asked and debated on by both Americans and non-Americans. The idea of an American Dream has many different meanings to different people.

The American dream might not hold the same awe inspiring sound that it once did, but for many generations before ours it was a beacon of hope that helped build the foundation that the United States was built on. It is human nature to be perfect. People desire to achieve excellence to impress others and feel good about themselves. Humans want to live life to its fullest potential because that is what is taught. Individuals are told to take risks since people only have one life. Is it truly possible to seize the day?
Throughout the course of recorded history people have always had ambitions of living a safe and secure life free from excessive control. The discovery and expansion of America created a melting pot for people from all over to immigrate and begin new lives. The people migrating to America dreamed of a new beginning and a flourishing lifestyle, driven by hard work and dedication. The American dream can be accomplished through perseverance and hard work to achieve our goals; and the strong sense of community to increase the well-being of everyone, not just oneself.
Throughout the last couple of years, this society of teens seems to be losing their confidence on the American Dream, the way teens think now a day makes no difference to them, but just dreaming of being happy when life does not always give them happiness. A man once said, “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didn't understand life” (Lennon) ,meaning how he was being ignored and possibly bullied.
America Has A Dream A news poll states that only fifty percent of people believe the American Dream is still possible, forty-three percent said that it had been true at one point, and the last four percent believed that the dream never existed (Rodriguez). Because the results of this poll are so low, it shows how much the dream has decreased and how it will continue to do so. Another poll states that ninety percent of children from the 1940’s surpassed their parents with their incomes, while only forty percent of children have exceeded their parents from the 1980s (Graham).
The American Dream begins with an affordable living arrangement and a good job, but with remorse, these two pieces are not connecting (Thompson, 2014). A college graduate can expect expensive housing with a job not reflective of the high housing price. In an article published in The Atlantic, “Why it’s So Hard for Millennials to Find a Place to Live and Work” Derek Thompson talks about the inequality between upward mobility and the housing market. For example, Dayton has one of the most affordable housing markets in the United States, however unlike California there is no social mobility (Thompson, 2014). The American dream is different for everyone and changes the course of action an individual may take.
