Thomas DiLorenzo’s book, The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War, is an attempt to prove that what has been written and taught about Abraham Lincoln is a myth. DiLorenzo claims that people he refers to as “Lincoln scholars” have gone to great lengths to do what he describes as, “to perpetuate countless myths and questionable interpretations of events” (1-2). DiLorenzo exposes Lincoln’s true opinions on race, his quest for economic nationalism, and his willingness to engage in war to fulfill his personal agenda.
