A story writing by James Hurst called “The Scarlet Ibis”, is about a boy that is born in a clove of summer and autumn and his name is Doodle. Doodle was born all head, with a tiny body which is red and shriveled like an old man’s, also he had a caul and his head which is very rare to get. Everyone thought he is going to die, expected for Aunt Nicey. The narrator brother helped him walk when many thought he would not. Everyone said he would not do something and he did it. Brother teaches Doodle things that “normal” boys do. Brother went to school while Doodle could not. Then one rainy day Doodle saw a scarlet ibis. Then it fell from the bleeding tree and dies in front of Doodle. That night Doodle buried the Scarlet Ibis. On another rainy day Doodle was running to go home and he was to tried and he died also like the scarlet ibis. Doodle overcome things that people said he would never do. The characteristic of Doodle as being, fragile, determined, and saint like help prove the theme that with tenacity and splendor, humans can overcome great odds. …show more content…
Doodle was born with a caul that was really rare. Aunt Nicey was the only one said he would live: “She said he would live because he was born in a caul, and cauls were made from Jesus’ nightgown”(Hurst 462). Doodle’s family said he was not all there. Then brother looked in his crib and Doodle smiled at him. The family put Doodle on the floor to give him a name. Doodle name is William Armstrong, but Doodle crawls like a doodlebug which gave him his name “Doodle”. Doodle would get sick in the winter, so Brother would have to pull Doodle in a cart, but then teaches him how to walk and it relieve Brother of that burden. Doodle and brother worked on it whenever they had a chance to do, so and also hopefully before school starts. Doodle overcome great odds thing that people said that he could not
