This reflection aims to look at, in detail, two lessons taught on my SE1 placement. Using my own reflections and analysis of these lessons, along with my SE1 targets, I will evaluate how I can progress into SE2. I spent my SE1 placement with one other student in a school that had opened seven year previously and was still steadily growing, with triple intake from the foundation stage upwards. I was in one of the three year one classes which contained 30 children, who sat and worked on tables based on academic ability which influenced a lot of the planning of my lessons. The classroom was very open and interactive and I used this to my advantage when planning lessons and assessing the children.

Student Success Student success does not have one uniform definition that is unanimously agreed upon. For the purposes of this study, student success will be measured by retention of students from one semester to the next (Thomas, 2002). Whether a student is retained may not be enough on its own to indicate success, so for the purposes of this study, their grade point average will also be taken into consideration. For a student to be considered successful in this study, they must maintain or increase their grade point average from one semester to another.
I incorporate this learned experience daily and learn through each success and discovered area of improvement. Addressing my students needs using a variety of assessment tools has been a beneficial practice to help guide instruction. Students have different learning styles and their strengths and weaknesses are not always apparent using the same methods of assessment. Utilizing formative, standards(goal)-based, anecdotal, observational and benchmarks has driven my instructional programs. The combination of different assessments provides me with a multi-dynamic perspective of my students allowing me to better understand their strengths, weakness and academic needs.
According to John Mooney (2013), in “The Hechinger report” writes that some teachers take the results of the students’ survey in developing self -evaluation to reach professional goals. Furthermore, a study of MET (Measures for Effective Teaching) suggested to judge the effectiveness of teachers can be done through student achievement and class observation. And they thinks that grading in not fair enough for the teachers because some students must agree one another that some teachers don’t deserve to be working as teachers because they don’t have the most important characteristics of an educator or maybe the student hates the instructor so they evaluate him\ her unfairly Nevertheless, people should realize the fact that grading teachers is beneficial for the students because teachers will stress upon students’ needs and always try to find solutions for their problems either academically or socially. Besides that, we see that teachers are responsible for creating generations who care about better education and can be good society members. To conclude, Students must be given the chance to evaluate their tutors to some extent, so that they see their progress as educators and if they are being biased in grading students.
Feedback is a significant element in determination of education quality as well as in effective learning where it portrays the learning outcomes for students and the successes for the tutors. There are many aspects that concern educationists with regards to feedback but the relationship between perspectives of learning as well as teaching and feedback stands as the most important among them. Feedback should be conveyed in different modes in a learning environment but whatever mode chosen creates room for dialogue between the tutor and students. Therefore, it is only through feedback that the student engagement relationship with the feedback as well as the tutors’ perceptions of learning, teaching and assessment that such successes can be established.
It is my goal to make sure students are not just memorizing facts, but are actually understanding. They should be able to take the lesson and apply it to other areas of their lives. I believe students need to be assessed frequently and routinely. The students need accurate and effective feedback, so they can make any necessary adjustments.
