At the start of 2018, it seemed like everyone had lost all faith in the people of my generation, and it was because of memes. YouTuber Logan Paul uploaded the controversial video in which he showed an actual corpse to his young, impressionable audience. And, news media was blowing up over the idiotic “Tide Pod Challenge” that was plaguing social media websites. Because of these events, I wanted to prove that memes were not just silly jokes that young people like to share with each other. But, they are a cultural phenomena that has a huge influence in our culture and should be treated with that implication in mind. I chose to write about this topic without much personal investment. The second source that I researched, "The Use of Meme as a Representation of Public Opinion in Social Media: A Case Study of Meme about Bekasi in Path and Twitter." by Handayani Fitrie seemed to be what I needed in my research paper. I felt like the author’s goal was to explain the ins and outs of meme to an audience of people who are out of touch in meme culture. For this reason, I dub this book “Meme Culture for Dummies, 2008 Edition”. I concluded that this source doesn’t provide very many new ideas or theories that explain how memes affect us, but rather it is a very thorough set of guidelines that is useful in understanding the fundamentals of
