The book “Happy, Happy, Happy” was written by Phil Robertson. Phil stars on the show Duck Dynasty, he has also written other books such as Duck Commander Family and Si-Cology. Phil Robertson started the very successful business Duck Commander. Phil had been building duck calls before he started his business. He got the nickname “Duck Commander” from his friend when he was duck hunting, and had pulled out his duck calls he built and started using them.
Get Happy, an article written by Walter Mosley is mainly based upon the idea that the government needs to become more involved in our lives in order to create true happiness within the country. Mosley uses multiple literary devices throughout his piece, such as rhetorical questions, repetition, and similes, all of which effectively contribute to the theme of the article, and help create a clear purpose. Mosley uses multiple types of literary devices in order to help get his point across, one being rhetorical questions. These are special types of questions that are not meant to be answered, but rather used to make a reader think about the side being argued.
The first reading of the first chapter of the book Pursuing Happiness, edited by Matthew Parfitt and Dawn Skorczewski introduces to different parts of the book of Psalms. I have done my research using different sources to understand more about this antique text. In the following paragraphs I will discuss the structure and the authorship of the five different sections of the book of Psalms. The book of Psalms is one of the largest book in the Bible, it is divided into five sections of divine songs, in over all, this book contains one hundred and fifty chapters.
In the essay, “Maid to Order” by Barbara Ehrenreich, the term “the politics of housework”means the idea of getting paid to do housework. In the 1960s and 1970s, doing housework was more a housewife's job. However, after the feminist movement, many women started to hire maids to do their housework. Ehrenreich is not saying that feminism is bad, she is explaining how feminism has changed people’s home into a workplace. “The home, or at least the affluent home, is finally becoming what radical feminism in the 1970s only imagined it was-a “workplace” for women and a tiny, though increasing visible, part of the capitalist economy” (Ehrenreich, 90).
In the ongoing debate about which of the two essays, "The American Male at Age 10" by Susan Orlean or "Joy" by Zadie Smith, presents a stronger argument, I believe that Orlean's essay is the more persuasive of the two. Orlean's essay presents a compelling argument about the struggles and complexities that boys face in the United States as they approach adolescence. She makes a strong case that the pressures and expectations of gender norms can have a negative impact on boys, both in terms of their emotional wellbeing and their future prospects. The strength of Orlean's argument lies in her use of vivid and descriptive language, which helps to engage the reader's emotions and imagination.
