Author Michael Howard in Men Against Fire makes the argument that the First World War occurred due to the realization that even with advancements in military technology, that pushing into wars using this new technology would not transpire into suicide, rather the adversaries were compelled to adopt different strategies to combat and implement the advancements. This is partially true, the advancements and strategies were part of the broader cause of militarism. This accompanied by nationalism, imperialism, and an entangling system of alliances amongst the major powers in Europe came about as the causes of the First World War. Before the first World War, Europe was unstable, the major states were locked into a polar system of alliances that
When reading the text “The Scorch Trials” by James Dashner, I combined the use of many reading strategies, For example, I used background knowledge, making connections, inferring, predicting, and questioning. Firstly, based on my background knowledge it isn’t a good idea to trust someone who you just met. This is because you don’t know if their motives are pure or not. While I was thinking about this, I remembered Officer Toni telling us two years ago about how many kids got in trouble when they trusted someone they didn’t know. My connection led me back to the book and the author (James Dashner) describing how Thomas felt when Jorge entered, “Thomas felt a belt of tension cinch inside him” (page 145).
In preparation for this paper I chose to read Fire in the ashes: twenty five years among the poorest children in America by Jonathan Kozol. In this book Kozol has followed these children and their family’s lives for the past twenty five years. In his writing Kozol portrays a point of view most from his background and standing would not be capable of having. He portrays what life is like for those who have been let down by the system that was meant to protect them. Kozols writing style can be very blunt at times, not for shock value, but for the sake of portraying these children’s realities, and not sugarcoating the inequalities that they are faced with.

Clifford J. Rogers argues in By Fire and Sword, that the Hundred Years War (1337 – 1453) should not be considered a “tourney or game,” but rather amounted in non-comparable levels of destruction within France. Rogers explains that the testimonies of chroniclers, poets, and clergyman concerned with the levels of destruction inflicted during the Hundred Years War should be taken with a grain of salt. Often do these chroniclers replace accuracy, with dramatic story telling. Rogers argues that the English were not satisfied solely with battlefield victories over the French army, as they did not yield the desired political outcomes. Instead, when the French refused to fight, the English took the fight directly to the civilian population, implementing

The murders committed by Perry Edward Smith and Richard Eugene Hickock are far more calculated than people assume. " And there remains the mother, bound and gagged and having to listen as her husband, her beloved children died
The book burning started in 1933 by the Nazi regime on May 10. Nazi German authorities aimed to synchronize professional and cultural organization with Nazi ideology and policy. Jonathan Rothschild Capital Punishment essay Inhumanity of Capital Punishment Capital punishment is not a humane way of making a suspect suffer as worse as the victim who got killed suffered that day. It might seem that the cost of keeping someone in jail might be more than the death penalty but according to deathpenalty.org, the cost of keeping someone in jail is only a fraction of the cost of the death penalty. In California, the state spends 184 million dollars a year on the death penalty and is on track to spend 1 billion dollars over the next 5 years. Also, the death penalty doesn’t prove that people are innocent before being proved guilty because innocent people have died years before evidence was found that they were really innocent. There have been many debates
