Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe, was a very controversial book for its time because it focused on slaves and their lives. The book focuses on a couple slaves and their masters. One of the main slaves, Eliza, who is married to George, was tested many times and got through a lot of challenges. In the book, her and George can not legally get married, none of the slaves at that time could, but their masters let them live together. George was working in a factory and living somewhere else because his master loaned him out for work. He then invented a machine to make work go easier and smoother. His original master claimed that he invented it to get out of work, so he had to come back home. The only good thing is that he got to spend some time with Eliza now. Eliza is trying to stay strong for him, but she is also breaking while going through all of this. Eliza is a very strong women through the book. She faces many challenges and she had a lot to do in the book to save her and her child’s life.
