In the Saint Louis American, I discovered an article, “Ferguson, equity and health, three years later”, written by Bob Hughes. The article talks about Ferguson and the death of Michael Brown Jr. that occurred on August 9, 2014. He mentioned the spark of the protests and rallies in response to Michael Brown Jr.’s death, and Ferguson’s respond to police brutality, racial profiling and the disproportionate rate of injustices among black people. Hughes main focus was on the aftermath of the protests, now that three years have passed, to see if progress has been made.
Unfortunately, little to no progress has been made. What progress is expected to be made when a police officer kills an innocent black man and faces no consequences. Darren Wilson …show more content…

‘Whose Streets’ focal point was on the activists who led the movement. One of the particular activist was Brittany Ferrell, who led numerous protests. One of the protests involved shutting down I-70, where a driver of an SUV tried to run over Brittany and the other protesters. The news along with the police department portrayed Brittany as an antagonist, when all she wanted to do was protect the protesters from the vehicle. Ferrell had to go to the court and fight the case and potentially could have got a felony. In result, she only received probation while the driver who was white faced no consequences. All she wanted to do was draw attention to the pressing issue of racism in Ferguson. Activists and protesters are always putting their lives at risk for the greater good of their communities. There is a misconception that Black Live Matters protesters in particular are not peaceful protesters. When in reality, they are peaceful protesters and then the police show up in army gear to tear gas and threaten people, and that is when things become chaotic. In ‘Whose Streets’, during a protest that turned into a riot once the police showed up, there was a police officer who shot into a crowd multiple times without thinking twice about it. During multiple scenes that showed news broadcasters, they said things such as “looting, rioting, multiple arrests were made due to criminal behavior”. Not once did they mention the purpose of the protests or the police
