Dublanica learned that in many jobs, the workers were discriminated. He found this happening mostly with bathroom attendants as most of them are illegal immigrants. He states that in 2004 it was discovered that many attendants weren't paid any wages and were forced to rely on tips alone (Keep the Change). He also cited Ofer Azar, a Israeli economist, whose paper, “The Social Norm of Tipping: A Review” stated that a server’s appearance and attentiveness didn’t effect the tip significantly while other factors did.
Everyone knows that tipping is an act of kindness that I put towards those who provide service beyond the expectation. Michael Lewis, a convincing author that addressed the pros and cons of tipping. Whether the workers were an excellent server or a poor server determines the amount of the tips that is given. In “The Case Against Tipping,” Michael Lewis created an arguable topic that can in truth get people thinking, but his essay lacks the evidence of logic. Michael Lewis’ first point was valid.
A good friend is someone who is concerned for your welfare, who includes you in their life, and will be there for you in whatever situation. By these standards, I believe that George has been a good friend to Lennie in the novella Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck. We see that on numerous occasions George does all these things for Lennie. A bad friend would not care about Lennie enough to go through all George does for Lennie. Bad friends don’t care about what happens to you and George cares about what happens to Lennie.
The author of the How to be perfectly unhappy, tried to provoke a response from people to break down the concept of happy. A simple definition should have many clear understanding and branches that can relate to the overall definition of a word. What drives a consumer to leave a tip behind? A question researched by many economists, discussed in the following section. In ‘The Norm of Restaurant Tipping’, Conlin, Lynn and O’Donoghue present interesting (psychological) theories explaining tipping behavior of consumers. It turns out that the act of tipping logically would serve as an efficiency enhancing phenomenon, especially in restaurants.
“ I have done things too, which I will not tell you,” Mrs.Luella Bates Washington Jones said to Roger the boy that tried to steal her purse. In the story “ Thank You Ma 'am ” I believe that Mrs Jones is caring because Mrs. Jones brings Roger into her house, and tries to help Roger. The most obvious why Mrs.Jones is caring is because she lets Roger into her house even when he tried to steal her purse, I know I would never just let him in my house if he tried to steal my purse I would of called the police. First of all she brings Roger to her house and then makes him dinner. I would never make a boy dinner who tried to steal my purse.
In the United States, a robbery occurs every one minute and thirty seconds. This equates to 6,720 in a week, 26,880 in a month, and 350,400 in a year. In the two short stories, “A Retrieved Reformation” by O’ Henry and “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Hughes, the themes of redemption and second chances are showed through the main conflicts in the stories. The authors incorporated the two themes by using descriptive words and specific details. “A Retrieved Reformation” and “Thank You Ma’am” have similarities and differences such as shared themes of second chances and redemption, the presentation and delivery of the two themes, and the path the main character takes to becoming a better person.
In Paul Ford’s “How to Be Polite” he argues that politeness is essential to success and self-development, thus creating opportunities that would otherwise not exist. He’s right being polite creates opportunities, but there are times where being unpolite can do the same. I think that being rude can also bring success and new opportunities depending on the situation. Many jobs are in demand for professional, stern, leaders, and by being polite one’s kindness may be taken as a weakness, which can hinder things from getting done effectively. My thesis is important because it’s essential to have a balance between being both polite and unpolite to prevent being taken for granted but to also prevent you from burning your bridges with others.
In Tony Mirabelli’s writing, “Learning to Serve”, Mirabelli completes an ethnographic study of the service industry. Mirabelli writes on a topic he is quite familiar with, being a waiter. Mirabelli discusses the complexity of being a waiter, although most of these complexities are unknown to people outside of the discourse community. Mirabelli uses his ethnographic study to undermine criticism towards waiters. The main critique Mirabelli rebuts in his writing is that being a waiter does not require skill.

The rule that I picked is "Treat others the way they treat you". I picked this rule because it is one that has played a big part in my life. I know that sometimes if you treat people a certain way they might not like it but they think they can treat you the same way and its okay.

Small coffee retailers provide more happiness to the local people than Starbucks
To decrease the complexity of the process, Starbucks has a set of suppliers that have specific locations to deliver their coffee beans to, allowing them to control the production. This is due to their highly-centralised processes that enables Starbucks to control their global networks. Another component of their value proposition is the service. The process of their customer service follows a pattern that is common to every Starbucks Coffee Shop in the world. This process helps them deliver their value proposition through four different and simple aspects which are to create the perfect product, to deliver this product in a short period of time, the caring product delivery and finally the adoption of effective problem-resolution procedure.
