The American Dream is sought after by many people. Living the life of freedom and education is what many people are constantly fighting for. Children and families come to the United States in order to receive a better life and better opportunities. In 2012, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was established by Obama. DACA is an american immigration program designed to protect immigrant children throughout the United States. He first sets the stage of the article by mentioning the bad behavior of Barack Obama for instituting this program. There are passive aggressive comments throughout the essay, mentioning the negative results that come with DACA. Wilcox mentions the relationship the United States has with Mexico, strengthening his own argument. Lastly, Wilcox strengthens his argument by mentioning how DACA affects the social and economic statues in the United States. There are many places throughout the article where the author fails to persuade his audience appropriately. The reader may notice there are some areas in the article that Dale Wilcox is lacking the appropriate strategies to fully convince his audience. In the article Dale Wilcox uses a strategy where he brings up an irrelevant topic which can help pull the reader's attention away from the main argument of the article, also known as the red herring fallacy. To pull readers away from the original argument on why Trump must end DACA, he brings up a problem with the oil fields in Mexico. Wilcox places blame of the fall of the oil fields in Mexico on the raised levels on Mexicans that are crossing the border into the United States. This statement provides no correlation between each other, weakening the author’s argument. Wilcox tends to use repetition on certain words that may pull certain strings towards the audience he is trying to reach such as; immigration, amnesty, and illegal. He uses more negatively connotated words that may appeal to the readers, while in hopes to emphasize the types of people that would fall under the DACA program. The use of these words also help pertain this article to a closed circle of people Wilcox is trying to approach. Any person reading this article who may fall under the category of these words would take offense, and possibly be worn off
