Summary Of William Zinsser's The Transaction

There are a countless number of distinct writers, including myself, William Zinsser, and even Ronnie Scott. In Zinsser’s story, “The Transaction,” he describes the obvious components in how he and Dr. Brock stand nowhere near similar. Zinsser depicts the different writing styles between he and Brock with an intense comparison. For instance, Brock is a surgeon who only began writing as a career in a later stage of his life. Zinsser began writing in his early years and, in his point of view, encompasses a greater knowledge of writing, at least in context. The story wraps up with Zinsser expressing his obvious aversion to Brock’s writing style, although it is okay to be diverse. This author, Dr. Brock, uses a whole new way of writing that differs greatly from that of Zinsser’s. Brock, in the story, relies solely on the happenings of his daily life to journalize his thoughts and feelings. He uses a much more relaxed method of writing, seeing as he does not pressure himself into completing the task immediately. For example, if the day is not going well he will save the writing for when he is feeling much more alive and productive. Brock also states that if he is not feeling completely committed to write, he will take a break or go for a walk to refresh his mind.
