“Birnam Wood”, by T. Coraghessan Boyle, portrays the unfolding relationship between Keith and Nora, as they struggle through the times they had with each other. During a rainy day in September, Keith and Nora expresses their frustrations with their financial and current housing situations. In the middle of their misery, a friend of Keith rang them, suggesting a house sitting for an elderly couple residing at Birnam Wood. They take the offer and are awestruck by the place, savouring every moment the had with each other. Nora finally picks up a job as a hostess allowing Keith to meet Steve, an unhesitant guy who barged into their lives, going as far as to show up at Birnam Wood.
Into The Wild is a biography about a man named Chris Mccandles. In 1990 Chris had just graduated college when Chris decided to go on an adventure. He abandoned his life and left without a trace going under the alias of Alexander Supertramp. His final destination Alaska. Along the ay he met an abundance of people and made a mark on their hearts.
Bonnie Mann’s essay Creepers, Flirts, Heroes and Allies discusses the four ways men can contribute to sexual harassment. There are certainly cliche and statistically prevalent circumstances. First, a man can be defined as a creeper which is essentially a man who has the potential of sexual harassment. A man does not need to have stimagized creepy behavior for example, a work setting where the harasser is in a higher position. Any form of creepy behavior is legitimate sexual harassment.

The book “White Rose Black Forest” by Eoin Dempsey is set in the Black Forest in Germany during World War II. The main characters are Franka Gerber and John Lynch. Almost everyone that Franka is close to has been killed by the Nazi’s. One day she stumbled upon an unconscious man in a luftwaffe uniform with two broken legs laying on the ground. She dragged him home and took care of him for the next couple of months.
The speaker offers a more in-depth view of their personal experience with hunting the woodchucks. The speaker begins to find joy and satisfaction in the murdering of pests, as demonstrated by the phrase, “thrilling to the feel of the .22”. The speaker admits that he/ she is a “lapsed pacifist fallen from grace puffed with Darwinian pieties for killing”. This phrase shows that the speaker acknowledges their evolution towards evil.
Imagine being involved in the world's largest mass murder, or even taking part in the process. This horrifying tragedy took place between 1939-1945. The books Maus, by Art Spiegelman and Night, by Elie Wiesel show many symbols to create a deeper meaning throughout the books. These sad books also portray a solid image of what it is like to be involved in the Holocaust. Maus and Night have a very similar tone that shows exactly how the Jews felt during this time.
The book I read was called Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy. The book was about a girl named Willowdean Dickson. She’s not exactly “thin” as most people she’s friends with are. She was always comfortable in her own skin, not caring that she was slightly larger than her beautiful, thin, best friend Ellen. That is, until she started working at a fast food place called Harpy’s.
There is a little town in Oregon called Dead Wood. We will start our story in a decent looking bar. In this bar there is a sheriff by the name of Wild Bill. He is what the town calls the fastest gun in the west. He has been in many gun fights.
Nature in “A Long Way Gone” is often described as beautiful but also dangerous, for example he describes many villages out in the country do not have running water or electricity and are surrounded by bushes and jungle. Ishmael can see a grander perspective when confronted by natural beauty. Ishmael strives to be like the moon, he is adept at living off of the forest when he is stranded, and he rejoices when he sees the ocean for the first time. Also, during the story the forest is described as nature foreshadowing the evil that is coming because of the war. Ishmael could not outrun the evil because forest did not end, and even when it did end to the beach that just meant he had nowhere else to run, and that eventually the evil will come.
nnie Dillard denominates her essay “In the Jungle” which gives meaning to how her essay is structured. Dillard describes the Ecuadorian Jungle from what she optically discerns and aurally perceives while being there. She is living in the jungle with two other Americans and four Ecuadorian guides. The essay takes place along the Napo River which is a source of life to all animals and many Indian villages that line its banks. Albeit the essay is mostly descriptive, it still has a purport.

The Acorn People is realistic fiction written by Ron Jones, and is based off of a true story. The main character, Ron Jones, a boy who must overcome prejudice, partiality and weakness in order to work with and help a group of disabled children. He treats them with the respect, kindness, and love they deserve, while also giving them the freedom to move about as they wish. The book displays a group of teens who come together and accomplish more than they have ever dreamed of. Ron Jones goes above and beyond the expectations to exhibit that not only can they perform just as well as any able-bodied person, but that with help and support, anything can be accomplished.
