Read the articles “Would You Eat This?” and “Gross! Yuck! That is a great idea! Ew!” The authors talk about how different countries around the world have insects on their daily menu and how Americans are almost one of the only countries grossed out by this. “Our country doesn’t have much of a system to support farming bugs,” (Lewis 24). On the other hand, this could become common in the U.S, when eating raw fish was new to the U.S. Many Americans found that strange and plain weird. Now, people eat shrimp and many other types with no problem at all. In the article “Gross! Yuck! That is a great idea! Ew!” Kristen Lewis talks about the science behind what we do and do not find disgusting. She states how being disgusted is a natural response to things, “It’s that feeling of being grossed out, of revulsion,” (Lewis 26). Lewis also explains that that feeling of disgust also keeps you safe and watches out for you. “Disgust is a complicated and vital emotion—one that helps keep us safe,” (26). It’s basically your body’s way of saying “Be careful!” and “Watch out!”. One final thing about disgust and how it happens is it could also be because of our cultural background. Like food, we all know and love cheese, but some people become disgusted by it. Cheese, for example, is a big part of the American diet. . .
