SCENARIO 2: THE DIFFICULT EMPLOYEE Smith is an erudite having the qualities of a defeatist. Just like any other erudite, Smith has opinion on just about everything. He is rarely at a loss for words for his qualities and prides himself on his command of language. It is through his prowess that he has influencing decisions and strong leadership qualities. The sergeant action was the most right action to be taken. The immediate action by disciplining the Smith for his outrageous behavior is a wise decision and action. The discipline is a sound warning to all the officers and a good example that no one is above the law and that the code of conduct should be upheld by each employee no matter the influence they have or the position they hold in the …show more content…

By the Sergeants actions, officers like Smith realize that they will too need to abide by the rules and regulations. As a Sergeant no one should be exempted or excluded for this type of behavior. Smith’s Sergeants made the best choice and should keep up this type of good decision making. He is ensuring officers are being considered responsible for their activities and behaviors. Smith conduct can upset the other officers and cause difficulties in the office. It is disruptive and a distraction to the rest of the officers and can end up bringing conflict within the department. Law Enforcement requires teamwork and therefore, one individual should not be allowed to cause the disruption in the team work required or achieved so far. The response of the sergeant therefore made a good maintenance of order among the officers by giving all of them a lesson that there is no one exempted when it comes to the code of conduct …show more content…

The announcement should reiterate the fact that whoever does not abide by the expected behavior of the officers shall not be condoned and shall face disciplinary action no matter who they are in the office and leadership. Making the officers to understand why the given action has been taken against the erudite like Smith, will make them be more faithful in abiding to the rules and regulations. In addition to this, public clear picture painting of the exact reasons which led to the given action will make the other officers not give the extreme undue respect to Smith any more than it is supposed to be. The scaled down respect of smith will too imply that, humility will be instilled in Smith or other officers with similar behaviors and will no longer with the same behaviors in the future. In fact, they will even execute the tasks expected of them more effectively than before with greater humility. This would avoid the registered case of Smith executing his responsibilities less
