Albion operates a 24-hour domestic and sexual violence crisis hotline staffed by trained advocates who provide emotional support, safety planning, and referrals. Through community education outreach, Albion Fellows Bacon Center presents to groups like schools, civic organizations, businesses, and churches. While Albion 's legal advocates are not attorneys, they provide emotional support, answer questions about individuals ' rights and options, and help clients navigate the Criminal and Civil Justice
Jackson Katz’s eye-opening diction elaborates on the idea of men’s violence by using phrases like “silence is a form of consent” and “need adult men in power to prioritize these issues”. The main point in this astonishing TED talk is that there should be a bigger emphasis on these domestic violence issues. Whether it’s men in power or just normal bystanders, there isn’t enough being done to stop the violence from happening. Men need to start standing with women and not against them. The silence from these people in power and in the bystanders is basically saying that they are agreeing with the violence being inflicted, since they aren’t doing anything to stop it.
When a young person is sexually assaulted, they often do not understand what has happened and will not come forward immediately. Often their feelings and thoughts are internalized which can help to create more trauma due to not coping in a way that will promote healing. The vicious cycle of isolation is prominent in Melinda’s coping strategy. When Melinda isolates herself from her peers by hiding in the janitor’s closet, the rejection she feels from her peers is being negatively reinforced; therefore, encouraging Melinda to continue isolating herself. Isolation is not always productive because it allows for rumination which can be damaging to a youth’s self-esteem and confidence.
In today’s society, a substantial part of the crimes committed significantly affect the public, and unfortunately, the criminals are sometimes lightly punished or go unpunished. One of the highest reported cases is sexual abuse which often leaves victims affected by the crimes. In modern day society, most are abused by relatives or strangers either sexually or physically. A present-day example is the Jaycee Dugard case, she was abducted at eleven years of age and experienced sexual and psychological mistreatment for over eighteen years where she had two kids.
When I first learned about rape, and sexual violence in general, I assumed that every victim reported their abuse, and every rapist went to jail. Once I learned that the reality was the opposite of my beliefs, I was confused. I did not understand why someone would not go to the police and seek out charges against their assaulters. Yet, the stories of Frances Thompson and the victim of Nate Parker, illustrate the extreme dangers that come along with reporting. Moreover, I am currently worried about the details that have been released in the Derek Rose rape case, and what may happen to the victim in this situation.
But to directly tackle the issue of stopping sexual assault, schools have implemented online programs that educate students about the details and facts of the crime. These programs seem like a good idea since they are easily accessible, comply with state and federal requirements, and require time for students to partake in them. In a broad sense, these programs do a good job spreading awareness of the issue at hand. However, the programs fail to help enact the drastic change that many schools hope the programs would. These programs are unsuccessful due to the fact that they are taught through a computer screen; users never truly interact with the actual experiences and emotions that one goes through during sexual assault.

Amid the rocking success of Straight Outta Compton, decades old accusations of misogynistic abuse against the co-producer of the movie Dr. Dre aka Andre Young resurfaced again, for which Young has issued a formal apology. "Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life. However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I 've been married for 19 years and every day I 'm working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I 'm doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again," the former rapper told The New York Times.
Pro-action is the common the motif throughout Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Providing the necessary means to be better equipped with the skills and understanding to combat sexual assault are key goals. The event IMPACT Self Defense Workshop held at DePaul Ray Meyer Fitness, Wednesday, April 13, offered women the chance to learn and practice prevention, evaluation, boundary setting, and physical self-defense techniques. For the first 60 minutes various defense practices were taught by IMPACT Chicago, a local self-defense organization led by a volunteer Board of Directors and Administrative Team.
Other victims could not get their case heard by the college they were attending, were completely ignored by these institutions, or did not have enough evidence to withstand trial in the criminal justice system (The Hunting Ground, 2015). In addition to that, other victims have experienced various other issues concerning the process after being assaulted. Sexual assault victims are continuously revictimized following their own personal attack. Therefore, the process or the system succeeding a sexual assault needs to be enhanced and improved for victims.
In society and college campuses, sexual assault occurs quite frequently. According to an estimation one third of women experience a forced sexual experience at least once in their life and most of the time it occurs in colleges. Men have also been reported to be victim of sexual assaults mostly by other men. Most of the time the sexual assault is planned and perpetrated by a third person, who is known to the victim of incident. Drug and alcohol use play role in this issue and contribute to the problem as most of the time the victim and perpetrators are under the effect of alcohol or any other drug during the incident.
We must educate ourselves and our children about healthy relationships, consent, and conflict resolution. By fostering an open dialogue, we can empower individuals to recognize the signs of abuse, support survivors, and break the chains of silence. Our legal systems need to ensure swift and effective justice for victims. We must advocate for stricter laws, stringent enforcement, and comprehensive support services. It is imperative that survivors feel safe and supported when they come forward, knowing that their voices will be heard and justice will be served.
The vast number of people on community supervision is astonishing. Sexual violence has significant consequences not only to the victim but families and communities as well. The behaviors and motivations to commit sexual abuse produce a plethora of feelings and misunderstandings. Should GMOs require labeling? Imagine living in a world where you don’t know what is really in your food which disenables you from knowing if you are consuming potentially harmful chemicals. This is the world we are currently living in. Foods containing GMOs are all around us and are very difficult to avoid consuming, seeing as they don’t require labeling.
