The Odyssey Journal #3 Summary: The Cyclops This story of the Odyssey starts with Odysseus taking his men to a island. On this island they find a cave of a Cyclops. Odysseus’s men take his food and then want to leave, but Odysseus says let's stay until the cyclops gets here he might give us gifts. They do so, but once the cyclops gets there he throws a big boulder in front of the only exit. The cyclops doesn't give them anything he only eats two of Odysseus’s men. At night he comes up with a idea to cut a piece off of his club and stab it into the cyclops one eye. Before they do this they give the cyclops a lot of strong wine that makes him sleep. The cyclops cries for help, and the other cyclops come to his aid. Odysseus and his men strap themselves to the bottom of the cyclops sheep and then as he opens the door all of the sheep run out and Odysseus and his men are free. …show more content…
“If I killed him we perished there as well, for we could never move his ponderous doorway slab aside.”(part 1 293-295) this is him thinking about killing him or just taking away his eye. Odysseus had to sacrifice 6 men, but it must have been worth it as all of this other men lived. Figurative
