In the meantime most free agents did their offseason training at local high schools, and others headed to Homestead Florida, there was Jordan, who had retired from the Chicago Bulls in 1993, after a nine year stretch and three NBA championships (Nightengale). Jordan started his baseball career for the White Sox in 1994, Jerry Reinsdorf who also owned the bulls gave Jordan the chance to pursue his dads wishes. Jordan spent the season at Class AA Birmingham Alabama, hitting just three homers, 51 runs batted in (RBI), and only batting .202. He was determined not to give up, played in the Arizona Fall League and vowed to come back to the team in spring training camp in 1995(Nightengale). With the strike doing its part Michael refused to play the game with replacement players, he later announced in March he would go back to the NBA. One of several effects of the 1994 MLB strike was the stopping of Matt Williams home run record race. Roger Maris’s single season home run record which he set at 61 in 1961 (ESPN). Matt Williams, who was on pace for the majestic 61 had 43. The record would later be squashed in 1998 during the so called “Steroid Era” by two players, Sammy Sosa who ended the season with 66, and Mark McGuire who stopped at 70 …show more content…
