INTRODUCTION The Brimbank Park (UTM: 37.734S, 144.837N) is located within the suburb of Keilor East, which located approximately 15km northwest of Melbourne CBD. The Park was intersected by M80 Highway and Maribyrnong River, surrounded by natural, industrial and residential areas (Figure 1.1&1.2). Some key landforms that observed in the site were wetlands, woodlands and grasslands since the located on a basalt plane, and volcanic activity was the reason that formed flat plains and steep river escarpments. Some lower plain-slopes with small gradients around 5° (Stop 3&4), river banks (Stop 2) along the Maryibyrong river could be observed as well (Figure 1.3).
The last remnant of the supercontinent Gondwanaland finally separated into Australia and Antarctica between 30 and 40 million years ago. Isolated on an enormous northward-drifting raft the inhabitants of the Australian continent evolved and diversified over millions of years as the climate cycled through periods of warm and cool, wet and dry. Elijah Anderson is an author of the text that was read of Urban Experience; it’s titled as The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life. As I read through the text, it made me wondered if places that I’ve been to is considered as part of cosmopolitanism or ethnocentrism. Elijah stated that cosmopolitanism embrace the individuality and achievement, especially through education and experience (p. 189). On the other hand, ethnocentrism embrace the loyalty to their own ethnic group (p. 189). Both of them typically applied onto non-white people, more specifically African-Americans’ attitude and their cultural assumptions and behaviors that come within.
SOCIAL ANALYSIS Thesis/Argument: Within the deep jungles of the Petén Basin, in the state of Campeche, is the Maya agriculture site known as Calakmul. This was one of the biggest and most influential ancient cities that has ever been found to be the home to the Mayans’. The Mayans' religion has played a big factor in giving us insights into the religious significance of their society through Calakmul. Supporting Research: K’uh: The foundation of Mayan religion is the idea that almost everything in the world is sacred.
The temperature in a rainforest varies from 68 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temperature of a rainforest is about 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainforests are never found in climates with the temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below because plants in a rainforest will not be able to survive in the cold weather. In the lower canopy, there is little air movement as a result of the humidity is constantly
This ecosystem needs special or additional protection because of the impacts that tourism, mining and deforestation on Daintree Rainforest. Deforestation severely affects the ecosystem by destroying animals habitats in the trees, creating more pollution in the area cause of various timber mills built to making logging faster. Meaning that more fuel is being burnt with carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere which then impacts climate change. Mining has been another factor to why it needs additional protection with these tin mining leases which is held all of the rainforest. Though it has been impacting the plants and animals as it creates erosion, sink holes and contamination of soil.
The impact did the book "The Jungle" has on society was showed the publis was actually going on in the factories. It showed how owners had no regard for worker safety nor public safety. Examples: people getting fingers cut off and being mixed in with the meat, diseased foods, and more. All the impacted of the Jungle in U.S by helping develop foods and workers safty laws and administrations. It also impacted the world by showing how immigrants were being mistreated and how hard life really was in the U.S.
The ecosystem that I found to be the most interesting is the Daintree Rainforest. This rainforest is estimated to be 180 million years old and has a very fascinating and distinctive land. The Daintree Rainforest is a tropical rainforest that is located on the north east coast of Queensland, Australia; taking up a total of 0.1 percent of Australia’s land mass. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest existing tropical rainforest in the world and the biggest rainforest located in Australia, it is a total of over 1,200 square kilometers in size. This forest got its famous name from a man named Richard Daintree, a 19th century Australian geologist and photographer.
ave you ever wonder what it’s like in a rainforest biome? A rainforest is a type of biome that have many tall trees with a warm climate year round and have many rainfall yearly. Daintree Rainforest is one of the rainforest biome on the Earth. The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest rainforest on Earth. It’s located in the region northeast of Queensland, Australia, north of Mossman and Cairns.
Deforestation in Madagascar All around the world, every individual must be able to receive the food, shelter, water, and other resources they require in order to survive. This is true from the icy state of Alaska to the the hot country of Egypt. On small island countries such as Madagascar, however, achieving such prosperity often poses a challenge as the area might not have enough resources. For thousands of years, the fourth largest island country off the coast of Southeast Africa in the Indian Ocean known as Madagascar has had an abundance of wildlife. However, due to continued human interference, much of the country’s wildlife is disappearing as they lose their habitats.
Summary The findings and analysis of this study are very interesting. Along with the vast array of ecological significance of Agumbe, there are many other cultural and spiritual beliefs attached to it. It was found that the importance of Agumbe rainforest has been exemplified due to the presence of King Cobra in this area. People have taken initiative to preserve the rainforest in the name of Nagabana.
Naturalism It was typical for it to rain heavily here. Well again it is in the name, rainforest. Barry had always had a fascination with nature, and felt a sort of connection to it. When he was a freshman in college he decided he wanted to become a rainforest cartographer.
Tropical rainforests play an elemental role in regulating global weather in addition to maintaining regular rainfall, while buffering against floods, droughts, and erosion. They store vast quantities of carbon, while producing a significant
The Congo basin supports a large rainforest ecosystem, which contributes on a large scale to stable the world climate. But this ecosystem is endangered due to the vast wealth of resources and accompanied illegal mining activities, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Diverse case studies about Congo’s Kahuzi-Biega Park, Okapi Reserve and Virunga Park ascertain that deforestation, water pollution as well as hunting and poaching are the most common environmental impacts. Observations show that only approximately 20 % of mammals are still alive in some heritage areas. These impacts lead to a high loss of biodiversity and results in a dramatically change in rainforest ecosystem services.
Amazon Rainforest Brazil A tropical rainforest is characterized by having large quantities of rainfall throughout the year and warm temperatures. Tropical rainforests are the terrestrial biomes with the highest biodiversity (Biggs, et al 72). The largest of all tropical rainforests is the Amazon Rainforest. It covers parts of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, and Venezuela (Facts on File; Amazon Rainforest). The Amazon Rainforest has many notable geographical features and characteristics.
