The Sworn Agreement of the Settlers was an ancient decree from the Theran government that mandated the colonization of Libya. This colonization process can be viewed and analyzed from two opposing angles reflecting the positive and negative impacts on Thera and its citizens. First of all, this decree reflects the Theran government’s position regarding the strict requirements of its citizens towards the colonization process. We can see ambiguous point of views towards the colonization process. On one side, the process of colonization is a pure act of intervention into foreign land from Thera led by Apollo. Some people, who didn’t have a family and were driven only by patriotic forces, participated in colonization process at their will. At the same time there were people who felt that the required service interfered with their lives. The family values were diminished, men had to leave their wives, their homes, their children, and were forced to go to Africa. After the departure, men involuntarily became colonizers and had to fight in a war. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was not even a decision - it was a draft. The government strongly persuaded individuals to ignore personal lives, personal values and follow the demand to fight.
