There have been many religious conflicts throughout the history, but one that was particularly interesting, was the divide between Sunnis and Shiites. The two religions, Sunni Islam and Shiite Islam, split after the death of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), when Sunni Islam, to keep their tradition, wanted Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H) successor to rule Muslims, while Shiite Islam wanted Prophet Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H) close friend and who they chose leader to rule the Muslims. Since Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) died in 632, and the conflict still goes on today, but the biggest changes in the modern world today were done by Sunni Muslim Saddam Hussein, who ruled from 1979 to 2003.This all began in 632, and is still ongoing today, but now, Islam is strongly divided …show more content…

At the beginning, in 632, Islam was split into 2 different religions, but even though they wanted to identify as a different community, Sunni’s and Shiite’s both have very similar laws and use the same holy book: The Koran. The Koran tells the Muslims how to deal with the human concerns, such as: worship, doctrine, wisdom and laws, but its main story is of God and His creatures. As well as following the Koran, both Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims believe in the “five ritualistic pillars of Islam”. These “five pillars” is the structure of the required Muslim lifestyle. The pillars are: The Testimony of Faith, Prayers, Donating Zakat (Supporting the poor), The Pilgrimage to Makkah (Makkah is the place where Muslims are supposed to go if they are healthy and ready for it once a year), and Fasting at the month of Ramadan. The Pilgrimage to Makkah is performed from 8th to 12th oh Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic Calendar. The pillars tell the Muslims how to live their life and what they should do throughout or once a month. Overall, the Sunnis, even though they believe in the same concept of God and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) being his messenger, there are still many factors which divide Sunnis and Shiite, for example culturally and
