In the article titled, “Arrogance, Deceit, Oversaturation At Root of NFL’s Ratings Decline”, CBS Boston writer Michael Hurley provides a long list of reasons as to why he believes the usually strong viewership and high ratings of the NFL on TV have gone down dramatically this year. Hurley touches upon a myriad of varying potential causes for the decline of the NFL’s ratings in order to provide his audience, likely sports fans, with an idea as to what exactly is going on to create such a problem. Although Hurley notifies the audience of various factors that may be causing the ratings to go down, his argument lacks depth and credibility due to an evident lack of ethos. Furthermore, Hurley seems to undermine the problem’s complex nature by hastily

There are two different types of NFL fans, someone that is a fan of the New England Patriots or someone to hates them. On January 18th 2015, during the 2014-2015 football season playoffs the New England Patriots were playing the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game. Eric Buchman, a popular TV writer, recently wrote an article for the New York Times titled, Football Has Become Too Real to Watch. Buchman’s argument, which is not only laid out in the title but also in the last sentence of the article, is that the joy of football, something many have experienced for years, has been sucked out of fans due to the reality of current issues within the NFL. Buchman wrote this article in an effort to inform football fans, and even everyday people, of the often-omitted issues involved with the NFL. Out of the three rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos, there is one that confuses me more than the others, logos.

As the melody of the national anthem fills the stadium on a Sunday night, the fans once there to support the NFL, neglect the game entirely, as they eagerly await the decisions of the players to either kneel or stand while the anthem plays. Sparked by the initial protest made by Colin Kaepernick, multiple players have “taken a knee” during the national anthem as a means of peaceful protest. Through her open letter addressed to the NFL, Taya Kyle utilizes repetition, rhetorical questioning, and a brief narrative in order to convey how the NFL and the protests have divided America. Throughout her letter, Kyle frequently employs repetition as means of stressing the responsibility the NFL and football had in America.
Super Bowl LII: A Million Dollar Advertisement Upon the first Sunday of February each year, the two remaining football teams in the NFL come together to compete and continue a national holiday that dates back to 1967. In that inaugural year, it cost approximately $40,000 to occupy a slot of time on the television screens of 50 million people around the country. 51 years later, in 2018, that price has been heightened to between 5 and 5.5 million dollars, now attracting nearly 100 million viewers each year.
Sports are a great way to bring a community together. However, sports have more to offer than just being a fun activity and a way to hang with friends. Lewis Lapham is correct in his assertion that sports represents more than trivial games between winners and losers; sports are deceptive and offer the illusion of hope, innocence, as well as lightness triumphing over darkness. H.G. Bissinger shows how these illusions affect a town’s reality in his book Friday Night Lights.
Imagine walking for miles and miles in the most excruciating heat to find a resource essential to every life form on this planet. Many people around the world deal with this terrible problem that can be solved. Stella Artois portrays this idea in their new Super Bowl commercial with a solution that the everyday person can help with. Stella Artois shows water running and running and then quickly flips to people in undeveloped countries walking and walking to get a resource that we use so carelessly here. This commercial stars Matt Damon (who has an organization that also donates water) holding a “chalice” that if bought, can help provide five years of clean water to people that are suffering in other places of the world.

There are many people that love sports but there was also a lot of people that loved sports when they became popular in the 1920’s. Sports have came a long why since then. They have became more competitive, the skill levels have improved a lot, and they are also easier to watch and keep up with because of how far technology has came. Who doesn’t love to watch baseball in the summer?
As the Super Bowl festivities continue to grow, slowly but surely many of San Francisco’s homeless people are being kicked out of their spots and are being gathered into shelters. In the article published by Alison Vekshin, “San Francisco nudges homeless away from Super Bowl fan village,” she expresses how the media does not want San Francisco to be viewed with poverty so they are kicking out the poor people to make room for activities and media signs that are associated with the Super Bowl. People are focusing too much on what makes them look good, but in reality when people hear about these unbelievable stories they think of them in a wrong way and it makes them look unpropitious. It is very obvious that people only want to see a

The sun illuminates countless all-American names, with the occasional Coke or Papa John’s sponsor signs. The play clock ticks down to zero, and the stadium is finally filled to maximum capacity. Kickoff commences, players scramble across the field, and suddenly the only problems in the world hinge on if the Nike plastered football is past the downs marker. There are the elite suites high above the stadium cloaked in shade, but the majority are cramped and blisteringly hot.
