The Way to Develop Independence Almost every person will have troubles during his lifetime; however, those troubles are not awful as long as people can learn something from these experiences. When I was a child, my parents always accompany me, so I was free to do whatever I like. Even though I got troubles, my parents and teachers would help me to solve it. As I grow up to an adult and study aboard by myself, things changes a lot to me. In the new surroundings, I always have a sense of fear, worry and tension. This experience is the turning point in my lives from a child to an adult instead of legal drinking age, 21 years old. When I get the chance to read the article “Superman and Me” written by Sherman Alexie, I have huge resonance with the author. Sherman comes from India and loved reading since a very young age. Some Indian may think that they were expected to be stupid. But in fact, they could change these discrimination. Sherman in his article said “I love those books, but I also knew that love had only one purpose. I was trying to save my life.” He believed that the knowledge that he acquire from reading is the best way to change the statues that the Indian being regarded as a stupid group. What he did at that point was different from other Indian kids, who are willing to accept the fact and be looked down by others. Sherman’s experience catch my resonance because we both can find a way to reach our different goals from our specific learning experiences. Sherman found that reading could help the Indian get rid of the discrimination and show their intelligence to the world. Similarly, I am trying to develop my independence by handling my life.
