Racial discrimination is no joke, that’s something Superman and the Lee family will face. But once they overcome it, they learn that you don’t have to be similar to everyone else to belong. In the graphic novel Superman Smashes the Klan, Roberta Lee and her family move to Metropolis City. But because of their race, they get harassed by a form of the KKK called the Klan of Fiery Kross. The theme of not having to be similar to everyone else to belong is shown through Roberta Lee, Tommy Lee, and Superman’s points of view through their adventures.
The theme of Not having to be similar to everyone else to belong is shown through many characters, but here specifically Roberta Lee, who moved to Metropolis city with her family, however, they get harassed by a group called the Klan of Fiery Kross, at first the Lee family feels like they don’t belong, but soon they learn that they don’t have to be similar to belong.

This shows how like in her new home Roberta feels alone. She stands out from the movie theater as she does in her new home for being different, however, in the background we see Roberta’s old friends from Chinatown in the back having fun and acting as if they do belong, this shows that they didn’t need to be similar to everyone else to belong. This shows that Roberta at this time in the book doesn’t realize she does belong because we see her old friends in the back having fun seeming as if they belong even though they’re not similar to everyone else around
