There is currently an abandoned building in the Town of Surette and the town is thinking about how to develop it for maximizing the value. There are two options. The first one is to develop the abandoned building into private office space to generate revenue for the town. This option can help the town balance its budget. The second option is to develop the abandoned building into a community center to improve its citizens’ quality of life. I think turning the building into a community center is a better choice. This essay will discuss the advantages of this choice. First of all, developing the building into a community center can strengthen the image of the town. There are not too many public facilities and no community centers in the town right now. The citizens in the town are requesting public facilities. A community center for citizens is an indispensable criterion to determine whether this town is a good place to live. Almost all the towns or cities that considered as a good place have many public facilities such as community centers. Therefore, developing the building into a community center is a way to strengthen the image of the town and it can make the town be considered as a good place to live. There have already been some corporate sponsors who could give funding to town to convert the abandoned building into the community center. It means the town does not need to pay too much for the conversion. It would generate many jobs during the conversion and the operation of the community center. The town could hire residents for these jobs. The town could also hold events or lease some empty space for retail stores to generate revenue.
