Astonishing : fill with sudden and overpowering surprise or wonder
Connotation- The connotation for the word astonishing differs from surprise because the word astonishing you feel more surprised or shocked. Unlike the word surprise you understand that the people was stun, but astonished you feel that the people really didn't see something coming.

Awe : an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear
Connotation- When you hear the word awe, you think of someone feeling happy or sad over something he or she just saw. Someone could awe over a cute puppy or over a bad test grade. Awe connotation differs from the word surprise because you feel emotion when the person is shock, unlike surprise you just know the person is shocked.

Surprise connotation is getting someone off their game or off guard. The word shock differ from surprise connotation because surprise is when someone gives you a gift that you won't have thought of. While shock is also like scaring someone and that person becomes speechless.

Flabbergasted : to overcome with surprise and bewilderment; astound
Connotation- The connotation of the word flabbergasted is a humorous word and sounds like someone would use this word to describe someone who is filled with astonishment. Flabbergasted connotation differs from surprise connotation because surprise is a basic word and flabbergasted gives the reader that the person was shock in a huge way.

Astound : to overwhelm with amazement; astonish greatly; shock with wonder or surprise
Connotation- When I hear the word astound the connotation is something great happening that wasn't expected to happen. (Hearing the word astound sounds like magicians use the word a lot). Hearing the word surprise the connotation is someone who is shocked. The differs between astound connotation and surprise connotation is that astound would be used is a positive manner, while surprise would be used to as a neutral or a mystery
