Surrealism is a very eccentric and thought provoking movement of art and literature that has manifested into all aspects of thought and views today. Interestingly enough it seems to be closely related to the philosophical stance that postmodernism claims as well. Surrealism is evident in everyday life and the original art movement has stakes in pop culture today as we can see with many celebrities and famous artist in the mainstream. In today’s world there is a large need for expression of the individual and surrealism helps provoke this need of the individual to stand out and to create their own self identity. Although it was expressed originally through art, the movement can manifest to any form of expression. It lets the inner subconscious identity run free to express who we are and not be bound by the traditions that molded us in our development.
