Although some people might think that survival should not always be the primary goal, it isn't true because surviving is the main one in the long run, we think about how we will live if we achieve some kind of goal. And also survival isn't only keeping yourself alive it's also the things that keep you going and motivate you to live, meaning its the primary goal in life. I learned a lot of new information while reading Night, there were many things I didn’t know about the Holocaust before that I know about now. I never knew much about the conditions of the camps or how the people were treated there, I just knew that they were dreadful places. Now I can have an image of the camps in my head, what it looked like for the people who had to live in these horrendous camps. They committed so many execrable acts on people, they performed experiments on people, murdered whoever they wanted, starved people and many more gruesome things. I didn’t realize how bad the conditions really were and how badly the people were treated.
Elie: Throughout the book we see Elie change from a relatively normal teenage school boy and into a emotionally hardened young man who has become so accustomed to death that he rarely gives it a second thought, even if the person dying was a friend . This change took place because of the tortuous conditions that the Nazi´s subjected him to and that he lost so many family members and friends along the way. My passage shows Elie at a time when he is just starting his journey, yet you can tell that the concentration camps and the Nazi´s have already had a very serious effect on him. ¨He must have died, trampled under the feet if the thousands of men who followed us.
In Night by Elie Wiesel the author shows resilience is how people survive through difficult times. Elie shows resilience by never giving up hope on surviving and working hard to keep his life going to make it out of the war. A specific instance is when they have begun the run from one camp to another with the SS shooting people who were left behind “I kept repeating to myself ‘Don’t stop, don’t think, run!’ Near me men were collapsing into dirty snow. Gunshots.”

In the book Night, Elie Wiesel offers many significant themes, but the question, “is family a blessing or a curse,” is one of the most prevalent and begging themes in the novel. During the novel, Wiesel often questions if he should try and keep his father around, or if life would just be better without him in the picture. “‘Don’t let me find him! If only I could get rid of this dead weight, so that I could use all my strength to struggle for my own survival, and only worry about myself,’ I immediately felt ashamed of myself, ashamed forever,” (Wiesel, 111).

This causes Elie to lose hope. The camps are torturous and weaken their spirits which makes them only think about themselves, but when they are selfish, it is very miserable because they shut people out.
