Paving the Way for Women's Equality

Imagine living throughout a time you weren't allowed to vote or even own property. Well, Susan B. Anthony didn't just imagine this, she lived through the discrimination of women and fought vigorously to change it. Anthony’s tireless attempts to stand up for herself and other women showed outstanding progress toward gender equality. She inspired others to speak up in order to fight for what's right and not give up on their opinions. Susan B. Anthony was a distinguished American suffrage activist and a civil rights activist who played a critical role in the woman's suffrage movement, but what was Anthony's mindset like throughout her life, and how did her mindset affect her actions?

Susan B. Anthony's early

Anthony fought for many rights which helped lead to these accomplishments. Some of her most important accomplishments were the lead-up to the 19th amendment, being president of the Woman Suffrage Association, and Activist for Abolition and Temperance. To begin, Anthony sadly died in 1906 which was 14 years before she could live through one of her greatest accomplishments, the 19th amendment, which claims "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex” (National Archives 8). Anthony helped pave the way for this amendment, which allowed women to vote by the influential message she portrayed. Furthermore, in 1892, Anthony became the president of the Woman Suffrage Association after Stanton resigned. This powerful association leads up to the 19th Amendment. A forceful quote that was said by Anthony during the Woman Suffrage Movement was, “There shall never be another season of silence until women have the same rights men have on this green earth” (Anthony 14). Anthony traveled the country to give speeches and organize events to promote women's suffrage. Her numerous actions to help further encourage her main topic of woman suffrage vastly shows how guided Anthony is to gain gender equality. Without the tireless efforts that she put into gender equality, women might not have gained the right to vote over time. Without women being eligible to vote, there would be many political and social issues in the world today. Some of these issues would consist of workforce laws, education laws, and the overall effect of women's rights. Anthony wasn't only devoted to protesting against women's rights, but she also protested alcohol use, “She was inspired to fight for women's rights while campaigning against alcohol” (Biography editors 4). Her work overall proves her perseverance and mindset to never give up. Anthony not only changed the world through gender equality but she helped protest slavery and alcohol. In addition to protesting alcohol, Anthony sought the best for women and children and how they were being treated, “Banning the consumption of alcohol was thought to be the only strategy for ending the abuse women and children suffered at the hands of husbands and fathers who drank too much” (Gale 9). In today's society, alcohol is legal but many people have similar views to Anthonys, which shows the impact she had on other people's mindsets. Overall, it's clear that Anthony had a vital role in shaping the world we live in
