The woman suffrage movement created many issues throughout history. The first cause of this movement was in 1848. This was when the first woman's rights convention was held in new york. This was when the whole movement began, women marching for what they think is unfair. A huge influencer of the suffrage movement was Susan B Anthony.
Thomas Jefferson wrote one of the most important and ironic phrases in the United States’s history: “...that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable right; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” (652). The Declaration of Independence boasts that it supports that all men have a right to liberty. However, even though they declare it, it does not always hold truthful. The declaration only promotes the freedom and separation as a united country or for the men of the occupied countries. There is no reference to women, people of color, or children in regards to liberty.
On November 5, 1872 Susan B. Anthony had voted and was imprisoned for it two weeks later. Did she have the right to vote, or was she wrong? She was wrong to a lot of people but not the women and to the court reasoning she was imprisoned for it. Although she was wrong to vote and breaking the law I believed that her motives were for the greater good of humanity. Susan B. Anthony, born February 5, 1820 raised in a Quakers household.

Anthony was in favor of abolitionism as she was a fierce activist in the anti-slavery movement before the civil war. Susan Anthony was born on February 15, 1820, in Adams, Massachusetts, and before becoming a famous feminist figure, she worked as a teacher. Anthony grew up in a Quaker family that made her spend her time working on social causes. And her father was an owner of a local cotton mill.

From the beginning of mankind, women have been labeled as inferior to men not only physically, but mentally and intellectually as well. Only in 1920 did women gain the right to voice their opinions in government elections while wealthy white men received the expected right since the creation of the United States. A pioneer in women’s suffrage, Susan B. Anthony publicly spoke out against this hypocrisy in a time when women were only seen as child bearers and household keepers. The goal Susan B Anthony was striving for was to “form a more perfect union” through her works and the works of fellow suffragists. The rhetoric used in this quote is important because it encourages people to strive to create a union with equality because we as a nation are still not living in one. If someone says something that offends anyone, regardless of its factuality or veracity, they will be questioned and challenged.
