While reading the work of Susan Bordo, I’ve started to notice a lot more reasons to start writing in more detailed works. I believe that her wording is fascinating in a way that makes the readers understand the way she is thinking. I think that the information is too long for some readers to understand correctly.
I love how she uses personal information in the writing of “The Empire of Images in Our World of Bodies.” When reading the article, it has been shown that it was written for critique media images of women bodies. It’s also used to inform people of the messages these images send to the readers. The article is written to make people feel better about/more comfortable with their bodies. (Bordo 1) She was feeling that women didn’t have a meaning in the world because she wasn’t being safe or protected either. Bordo really is on the right track and has pointed out some very important things that the world needs to be aware of. And while she occasionally got a little carried away, I am shocked by many statements she made. When reading the article Susan Bordo only points out the facts about women and not a thing on men. I think she should have put some things out there for men so they wouldn’t get offended on the article. She should make some points that men are equally made and protected as women then not adding men at all. Even though she is a feminist she should have done that for the men that are reading her article and other works. The example she gives of the girls purging pizza is shocking at the very least. It is depressing. Obviously, they aren’t doing things that are good for them sheerly for the purpose of looking a certain way. This is something to be worried about. How can things be ok in a world where young women do this to themselves? While I am shocked at this, I will say that I found her rant about the Maury Povich show a little much. Honestly, yes, it is harmful to steer girls away from their natural place of happiness. Yes, they are thrusting feminine qualities upon girls who would not normally possess
