The thrilling mystery novel, Killer Instinct by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, reveals many mind-wrenching plot twists that astonished me as I read the story.
The majority of this book takes place in the Naturals’ home. The Naturals, a gifted group of teenagers with unusal skills, all live in a house where they are able to solve their cases and train their skills; It is a place they know they are safe. This contains Dean, Michael, Sloane, Lia, the head agents, and most importantly, Cassie, the main character. Primarily, it’s like their homebase, their headquarters, and moreover their safeplace. One way she used was presenting the character’s flashbacks. A part in the novel that expressed a flashback was, “Suddenly I was back at the safe house. Dean was lying unconscious on the floor. Michael had been shot. And Locke wanted—desperately, madly for me to take the knife”(Barnes 274). This was a scene where Cassie’s mind had returned to an extremely traumatizing moment of her life. She was offered a knife and asked to stab someone to death, to finish off their murder. Being just a teen, she was so scared and would never forget this day. Overall, the author included flashbacks in the novel which was able to produce a suspenseful state …show more content…

It was mixed with murder mysteries, yet at the same time, uncovered unknown surprises between friendships and personal secrets among the young, elite FBI team. I recommend this book to anyone who desires to read a book that includes multiple sides to a curious teenagers life, both professional and personal. Something I really enjoyed about this book was the major plot twists that occurred near the end. The author erased any suspicion towards some characters as the novel progressed, but then resulted in those characters being the most important at last. Another thing I really liked about this book was how the author thoroughly expressed the character’s emotions. While reading, I was able to visualize and put myself in the main character’s shoes in their situations. Although, one thing I did not really like about this book was the fact that I noticed some unnecessary parts which made the book slightly dull in some aspects. Personally, I rate this book a 9/10, I enjoyed reading it and always grasped to know what would happen
