The previous receiver-to-be was Rosemary. She was serene, lovely and intelligent girl. The giver told Jonas that he loved her, her bright eyes, careful listening and enthusiasm. Week had passed, she suffered with the memories the giver gave her, poverty, loneliness, terror and hunger. The giver commented sadly that one day she came to him and gave him a sweet kiss on the cheek, on this day she didn't came to her family unit.
Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo. All of a sudden, Jonas spotted a tangled mass of yellow. Then, more colors appeared, blue and red, then green. Her green eyes were visible as Jonas sat in the bitterly cold snow with Gabriel nuzzled in his chest.
Some events that pushed Jonas over is when all of his friendships/relationships start to wither away. For example when it was an unscheduled holiday. Jonas went to play with Asher and some other kids, Jonas saw them playing a game that “was a game he had often played with the other children”(133), and at he it was “a harmless pastime that used up their contained energy”(133). But “He had never recognized it before as a game of war”(133). After realizing it was a game of war, Jonas was unable to play now knowing the full truth about war.
The Giver is about a young boy named Jonas who lives in a community without color, emotion, war, differences, pain, etc. There is only the community. That is until he gets his assignment where he sees and feels things that he never knew existed. One of the major script differences in the film is that we learn right away that Jonas’ community doesn’t see color. Another major script difference is that the ending in the film is different from the ending in the book.
Brenton Tremayne, lead singer for the heavy metal band Vizio and his bandmates return to New Orleans after a two year tour of Europe. Jonas Kerry, the member of the pop group The Kerrys accidently bumps into Brenton as he runs out of a restaurant crying. Brenton later learns that Jonas had just caught his lover cheating on him in the dining room. Brenton has always been a fan of The Kerrys and had a secret crush on Jonas. The next day Brenton learns that Jonas is in the hospital, apparently from suffering an asthma attack.
“Someone who can’t sacrifice anything, can’t change anything.” (Whisper.sh). Jonas sacrificed everything to change his community, other communities, and the world. Lois Lowry creates a flawed and controlled setting in chapters 1 and 2 of The Giver using specific words and phrases.
Feelings and Emotion Different feelings and emotion are not known in the community within the people. The Giver and Jonas are the only true people that know how to feel the different emotions. Every night at the conclusion of their evening meal one of the rituals is the evening telling of feelings. In the very first Chapter Jonas talks about how it was almost December and Jonas was beginning to be frightened. But then thought that was the wrong word to use.

When he receives the memories he realizes that his utopia is far from perfect. As he gets memories from the Giver, he starts to see what the community is lacking; for example, in his society they don’t see color or feel love or hate.
