5. The author created suspense by not letting the reader know what characters are safe or when they might die. An example of this is when Thomas is exploring the cemetery he describes how creepy the area is, then all of a sudden he is attacked by Ben a Glader that was stung by the Grievers making him aggressive. Another time was at the end of the book when the Gladers are trying to escape. The boys knew that at least one person will be killed by the Gievers just like how it was the past few nights, but the author didn’t let the reader know who would die and this caused suspense in the story. Especially since I had grown to love Chucks character just as Thomas had. It was sad that Chuck died after the moment he had with Thomas, Thomas had promised that he was going to find Chuck's parents and make sure they weren't sad anymore. Also during the battle to get to the the Griever Hole Thomas made sure Chuck would survive and seeing his Chuck die right after seemed like it was a waste of time. The narrator of the book is a boy named Thomas. Thomas is the main character in the story, he is also the first character we meet. This story was told in third person limited, meaning the story was told in first person therefore the author would use he or Thomas. The reason the story is limited instead of omniscient was the fact the reader could only tell how Thomas was feeling not any other characters like Newt and Alby. An example is the quote “He looked so angry” (Dashner 7) where Thomas thinks he’s angry but the reader doesn't know for sure.
8. The story ended with twenty of the Gladers surviving the Maze. After escaping Chuck is killed by Gally. The Gladers were then saved by an unnamed group that took them away from the Maze and creators. This group of people gave them information about the world. They explained that the world was in ruins, the sun had very large solar flares that within minutes killed thousands and millions in days. These flares also killed the ecosystem and causes the world to become a sandy desert. They then explain the Flare a disease that broke out after the world started
