In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the author approached the climax in the way he did because he wanted to end the story with a cliffhanger to give the reader of feel of suspense. The general said with a deep, serious voice, “One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford” (Connell 15). The author wanted to end the story with action to make the reader feel suspense. This had a positive effect on the reader because it made the reader more interested in the story and gave the reader tension.
