Suspense In The Sniper

The sniper gets tracked by another sniper from the enemy side, gets wounded, and finds out that in the end, the enemy sniper was his brother. He lights a cigarette and it lets the enemy know where he is. He shoots an old woman, AKA an informer, also shooting a man in the armoured car so not to be discovered. He gets shot, and fakes a death so he can get an advantage on his enemy. The pacing and timing used in the story create suspense. He lights a cigarette, quickly putting it out in order to not be seen. But it was too late. The enemy sniper had already seen the light from the cigarette and had taken the shot. It adds suspense because he shows his concern and hesitation for lighting the cigarette, but he lights it anyways. And almost immediately after he put it out the other sniper took the shot and it landed just above him. She is a threat, so when the man poked his head out of the car to talk to her, he shot the man first, then the woman. “Then round the corner of a side street came an old woman, her head covered by a tattered shawl. She began to talk to the man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. An informer.” It creates suspense because of the added element of more fear within the people as a threat to kill him. He not only has another sniper to get away from and kill, but now he has these two others that are a danger to him.
